News

Alexis Martin who is three years old has the same IQ as Einstein. With only three years of age she just become Arizona's youngest Mensa member.
Alexis Martin’s parents first realized their daughter was smart when she began reciting her bedtime stories verbatim at 18 months old. Also she has memorized world geography and taught herself Spanish on her parents' iPad.
According to ABC she is around a 160 on IQ, the same score as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

That piece of news is incredible, how can a three-year-old learn to Speak Spanish on her own? And at 18 months old she learnd by heart all her bedtimes stories, that really impress me. Moreover, she’s scored so well on IQ tests that doctors have been “unable to calculate her true score” I have no words left.

Nepal slashes fees to climb mount Everest

Nepal will slash climbing fees for Everest and other Himalayan peaks to attract more mountaineers. Specially the government will cut license fees for foreign individuals but, the fees for group expeditions to Everest will go up.
Before, with the past rules, there were many people who went up but not all of them equally competent. Also, this format hampered the rescue efforts.
The government hopes that the new measure would help to increase the number of climbers. They really need that because Everest is a key revenue earner for the country.
Hundreds of climbers scale Nepal’s more than 100 peaks every year and Everest alone contributes $3 million to the country annually.
Before reading that piece of news I had never thought that you must pay to go up Everest. Anyway, nowadays you must pay to do whatever so that doesn't surprise me too much.

Woman crowdfunds homeless man's ticket home

A woman called Jenny one night was out in Dalston and she came across a very sweet homeless man. He told her that he was 64 and came over to England with his mum for a better life. Unfortunately his mother passed away and he found himself homeless with no funds. And his wish was to go back to Jamaica. So she decided to do something to help him.  Jenny, who sent a message to help a homeless Jamaican man back to his native country, has succeeded in raising thousands of dollars. Supporters have been using the Twitter hashtag #getmichaelhome to highlight the appeal.
Her goal was to raise £8,000, but donations closed today at £10,215. When the man knew that he told the world he was overwhelmed.
In my opinion the most amusing part is seeing that he was overwhelmed, touched and shocked because his dream to return home could actually become a reality. That proves that the world we live in isn't as awful as we think.

Pride and Prejudice

How important was beauty at that time?

Beauty always has been a really important quality for a person. For that, people use to take care about their appearance; they want to look as good as they can. That also happened before, as we can see in Pride and Prejudice, guys went to balls to meet all the girls and there they would chose the most beautiful one to dance with. However, girls were interested in the man’s income not in their looks.  Therefore only the most beautiful girls could get the best husbands. At that time the blondes and pale skin, like Jane, were considered the most beautiful girls.

All in all, I agree that the appearance at that time were very important because it helped you to get your future husband.

Oral presentation

In this oral presentation I talked about my TDR called Pau Casals, corresponència i exili (1942-1956). To explain my research I used a Power Point to show the pictures. The structure of my presentation it is clear, I have divided it into four parts: biography, historical context, Prades and finally the letters that I found in San Cugat.

To improve my presentation I have to speak louder, improve my body language, eye contact and my pronunciation. In my opinion the project is very interesting and I have really enjoyed doing it. So I hope you enjoy it as well as I have.

TDR

My research work is based in the reconstruction of a fragment of Pau Casals’s life. I have focused on his humanitarian activity during his exile in Prades, specifically between 1942 and 1956. in my project I have explained the reasons for his exile and what he made during this period: helping refugees with donations of food, clothing and money, protesting against totalitarianism and defending the right to freedom. On the one hand, thanks to Maria Casals, my grandmother, I was able to deepen his uncle's life as she lived with him in Prades. On the other hand, with the letters which I went to look at the National Archive of Catalonia I have corroborated everything that my grandmother told me.

Can internet change the world for the better?

Nowadays our society depends on internet. All the ages and in the great majority of the countries use this global network connecting millions of computers. That’s why we are going to discuss the benefits and the challenges of the internet.

First of all, internet brings to us lots of benefits like getting the information that we want and when we want. Moreover, it helps people to communicate to each other quicker.

In contrast, it has some flaws. For example, it creates dependency; it’s like a drug, if you don’t pay attention, you get addicted. Besides with all the things that you can find in it you create your world, you became unsociable. And the worst thing of all is that it cuts down our imagination. You don’t need to think for yourself because you find all the things done.

All in all, can internet change the world for the better? This is our question to conclude this discussion essay. In our opinion some things get better and some things get worse. We think that internet is improving our world in a good way but we can’t depend on it because if we do, we will lose our relationships and also the imagination.

Four ways to give your brain a break

Maria Konnikova has said that we use to feel like we are struggling to process too much information every day so she explains us four straightforward recommendations to give our brain a break.
The first one is to get some sleep because many of us don't sleep as much as we have to (adults need anywhere between seven and nine hours per night). The second one is to log off because where the problem comes in is when we start to do it all at the same time. So the third is focusing one app or site at a time. Finally she recommends to be mindful, we have to take some time each day (ten minutes it are enough)  and designate them as your time to do nothing. Doing this we will u start being able to focus much more easily.
I totally agree with that article because I'm also feeling frazzled by the pressures and I feel like I’m struggling to process too much information every day. So I have to   take a breather, step back, and look at what my habits are costing me. And also I will follow her recommendations to give my brain a break.

Man-eating tiger claims ninth victim; partially eaten body of farmer found in jungle

In northern India one tiger killed a young farmer and he it is the ninth victim of the man-eater. In India the tiger-hunting has long been illegal, but the government has licensed six hunters to capture or kill the tigress who has terrorized local villagers. The villagers are living in fear because they have many tigers close to them in the forest and children are now being asked not to go to the forest, particularly early in the morning or after sunset.
India is home to half the world's dwindling tiger population and the attacks are rare, but these animals are losing their natural habitat and that it is causing man and beast to live into closer proximity.
In my opinion that situation is really complicated because we can't kill all the tigers but also we have to take care about the local villagers. It is understandable that the villagers are living in fear because they have many tigers close to them in the forest so they are in danger. but I don't think that we have to kill the tigers because they were there first and they have the same right as the humans to live there. May be we can move them to somewhere without humans.

Miss Venezuela 2013 contestant Wi May Nava had mesh sewn to her tongue to discourage her from eating

A MISS Venezuela 2013 contestant, who had breast implants, dental work and a nose job, has revealed she had mesh sewn to her tongue to prevent her eating solids. She admitted to having a piece of plastic mesh sewn to her tongue to make her lose weight quicker because it hurts too much to eat. With this piece of plastic she only could have liquids

When I read this piece of news I couldn't believe it, it is shocking. How could someone do that? Obviously she usually faints from not eating enough. I can understand that she wants to be thin, but doing that she is damaging herself. This isn’t healthy at all.

My last days. Carpe diem

I think that everybody has to watch that video because people are use to complain for anything, but the majority of complains are for silly things.

In that video Zach, who has a terminal disease, is talking about their last days. In the whole video we can see him happy and enjoying his life with all the people who love him.

Everyone has to learn about him and his family because even they are having a really bad moment in their lives, they are trying to enjoy their time together. The thing that I most admire is that they are always smiling and they support each other.

All in all, I can say that seeing that video makes me think of the important things in live: family and friends.

A whole day in Barcelona

Four days before starting the school my family and I went to Barcelona to see my grandmother and also to go to the theater. First of all, we went to my favorite place in Barcelona, Montjuic. Then we spent the afternoon with my grandmother and finally we went to the theater. We watched “La familia irreal” which I recommend because it’s funny and enjoyable.

When we were coming back with the car, we saw a car stopped in the middle of the road and a woman in front of the car with the hands up. We couldn’t stop there because we had some cars at the back. Some kilometers later we phoned to ask help for that poor woman and they said that they were coming.

Thailand

My uncle and aunt love travelling so when their daughter grew up they decided to make a trip every year. They have been almost in every continent and their favorite one is Asia because they love their culture and also their food.

One month ago my uncle and aunt went to Thailand for the second time. They told us that they loved this country and they were wishing to go back again as soon as they could.

They are planning to live there when they retire because of the weather, the kind people, the food and for the good environment.

The problem is that my grandmother and my cousin don’t agree with that decision because they thing that Thailand it’s too far from here and if my uncle and aunt go to live there we won’t be able to see them very often.

Happiness

One year ago, more or less, we started a new project at school called TDR. People use to think that one year it’s too long to do a project, but that’s not true. The TDR brings too much work and everyone was very stressed doing it. Fortunately, one year later… I have finished my TDR and I’m extremely happy! I know that I still have to do the oral presentation but the hardest work has been done.

If I’m honest, I’m going to be nervous in front of my teacher talking about my project but everyone has to do it, so I have to do it too.

Finally, congratulations to all my classmates for have finished their TDR!

New Years's Eve

Every year I have celebrated the New Year’s Eve with my parents and some friends of them and then I went to celebrate it with my friends. But this year, my friends and I decided to do something special. In the morning we went to buy all the food that we need, then we got dressed elegantly and finally we went to prepare everything for the dinner. At night we met and we had dinner, we ate the twelve grapes and then we went to Sant Pere Pescador.

I really enjoyed that night because we laughed a lot and we spent a good time together. I just want to repeat it.

Happy New Year to everyone!

This is my first post on 2014 and I’m sure that this year is going to be fantastic, I know it. The reasons are: first of all I will finish the high school (that will be great), then I will be able to drive a car and go wherever I want. And last but not least, I will start university!

The problem is that we haven’t finished all the exams yet, so I have decided to keep calm and study hard to get a high mark and past to university. Also I have to enjoy my last year in the high school because maybe next year I won’t be able to see all my friends everyday like now and I’m going to miss them.
