It’s true that everyone thinks that youth and beauty are perfectly related. But I not agree. In my opinion beauty is important but it isn't the main quality of someone. There are also other qualities as important as the beauty or even more.

In my view, beauty isn’t just the appearance; it is the combination of the appearance and the character. Moreover, the business world is interested in selling the perfect beauty image because they could sell their products to become richer. They control us and make us think that we not as good as we can be, so we have to change our image to be perfect.

Of course young people are prettier than the old ones but that is what life consists (we grow older). I don’t understand why people change completely their body just to pretend to be “perfect". Nobody is perfect and we have to learn to live with our appearances.

Oral Presentation

Marina, Lidia and I talked to you about the humour. We decided this topic because we though that could be funnier than the other topics.

Like some classmates we used the Prezzi to do our presentation. The structure of our presentation it was clear and you can follow all the different parts of our project and we didn’t use very difficult words. Also we explained you new information and we think that we chose good information.

Moreover we included videos and jokes to entertain the audience, we hope they enjoyed them.

In my case, I have to speak louder and try not to be nervous to improve my body language, eye contact and my pronunciation.

hi Sònia, I'm Tura.

First of all, I’m going to start by mentioning some of my short term goals which I’m sure that I have to face. My main objective to this year is earning good grades. For that I have to struggle with my studies, organize my homework and don’t give up on myself.  Also, I would like to meet my challenges in the future because now I don’t have any idea of what I want to be.

In addition, my long term goals are getting a scholarship, travelling around Europe by the interail with my friends, working one summer in New York doing whatever and finally I would like to live in different cities during a time to know well others countries.

Most of people have dreams and specially the young ones need to be advised to meet their goals. And that’s what Obama does. He has goes the high schools around America to talk about the benefits of education. In his speech he tells to the students that every single one of them has something to offer and they have the responsibility to discover what it is. That means that everyone has some good quality and we have to find them. To get that, we have to don’t give up to become good at things through hard work. 

This activity could be difficult to write for some of the students. In my case, talking about my dreams create confusion in myself. Maybe because I’m quite insecure to make decisions and the truth is that I’m really scared for the future. But I have one thing crystal clear: I’m going to put my best effort to get into university. And then I will see. All in all, I have to keep going.

Thep pianist

The Pianist is a film which explains the life of a Polish-Jewish pianist in the Second World War. The pianist is called Władysław Szpilman and he plays on the radio in Warsaw. The film starts when the Nazi Germany's invade Poland. Szpilman go to his house with his family and there they listen to the radio that Britain and France have declared war on Germany. However, the Nazis enter to Warsaw very quickly. As a result, the lives of the Jews get worse and worse. The Nazis use them like machines and objects to work in their businesses. At first, the Nazis force them to wear blue Star of David armbands to recognize them faster.

Furthermore, Szpilman and his family have been forced to leave their home and move into the overcrowded Warsaw Ghetto where conditions only get worse. There, people live in terrible conditions.  

One year later, all the family is deported to an extermination camp, but he survives as a consequence of an intervention from a friend in the Jewish Ghetto Police.  Then Szpilman becomes a slave labourer. But he decides to escape and he takes refuge from one non-Jewish friend of his. This friend hides him on an apartment but a neighbor discovers him. So he has to find another place to live.

Some months later, the city is destroyed and he moves to an abandoned house.  But one Nazi officer, Wilm Hosenfeld, discover him.  Szpilman doesn’t know what to do, he thinks that the Nazi will kill him even though, the Nazi asks him to play the piano. Listening how Szpilman plays, he gets moved and he allows Szpilman to hide in the attic house where he regularly brings him food.

After that, the Germans are forced to retreat due to the advance of the Red Army. So Wilm meets Szpilman for the last time and promises he will listen to him on Polish Radio after the war. He gives Szpilman his greatcoat to keep warm and then, he leaves. When the Red Army arrives and sees Szpilman with a Nazi coat and they thing that he is an enemy. Then he explains to the army what he has been doing here.  At the end of the war, all Jewish are free and the Nazi officers are jailed.

Predatory 'king of gore' dinosaur discovered

A new predator dinosaur has been discovered in southern Utah. These dinosaurs had lived 80 million years ago and they were closely related to Tyrannosaurus rex. the new predator is the largest living land predator of its time.

It grew about 9 meters long and it has been named Lythronax argestes which means "king of gore".

Lythronax had a short and narrow snout, forward slanting eyes and head full of sharp teeth. Also, like T. rex, it was able to look forward because it had binocular vision.

with this new discovery, the experts could uncover what the climate was like towards the end of the age of dinosaurs.

In my view, that discovery highlights once more that the age of discovery is far from over.   I find that interesting news because it shows that there are lots of things which had been living in the past that we don't know their existence.

Are children given too many toys?

Nowadays, children have too many toys and the experts believe children don't need a vast panoply of toys.

Moreover, the traditional toys like dolls and building blocks have retained a consistent popularity because it allows children to use their imagination. However the modern toys offer limited possibilities for fun. And if their toys offer a limited repertoire, this process is eroded."

Also, more toys could actually make them more selfish because children don't have to share them.

I completely agree with that because when children have too many toys, they not even know which they have. So they just play with their favorites ones. Despite, their parents spending a lot of money buying toys for nothing, and also if they give their children everything they want, they become spoilt and they don’t appreciate what they have.

Sweet 17!

Last week it was my birthday and I decided to celebrate it with my friends in two weeks time as soon as we have finished all the exams.  Even though on Saturday night the girls phoned me to watch a film. The truth is that I didn’t want to go because I had lots of homework to do however they convinced me. Finally I went thinking that we would watch a film but when I entered at the room, I saw all my friends there! I didn’t expect to see them. I was moved and I couldn’t say anything, for a long time after my legs were still wobbling and my heart was beating like crazy.

They prepared the dinner and the cake. Furthermore they gave me pictures of all of us since we were little. I just can say that they are incredible people and they make me happy. Love you guys!

Taylor Swift 'no Victoria's Secret Angel' says australian model Jessica Hart

Swift performed during the opening and close of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York.

The Australian model Jessica Hart was interviewed at a party after the show, and she criticized Taylor Swift's participation in the show. She said that in her opinion Taylor Swift couldn't be a Victoria's Secret Angel because Taylor didn't fit with the rest of the models because of her young age. She said that Taylor was inexperienced for the role.

Although, the Australian model thinks that she's the coolest young girl, she's a great role model, and she loves her music.

I’m not a model and I don’t know the exact qualities which a model would have but in my opinion, Taylor Swift did a great job in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She seemed a real model in the catwalk and she did  an excellent performance.

On Beauty | Bare is beautiful

A face without makeup looks wholesome and shows confidence but to obtain that it is necessary to take care of the skin.

In our culture it is usual or even necessary to makeup before leaving the house.  Although on the spring 2014 runways, the models didn’t wear too much makeup to symbolize confident girls. They pretended to have a smooth face with perfect canvas that has been protected from the sun and hydrated to seem natural and wholesome.

Meanwhile, the skin cares in different countries are not the same, for example in the United States is usually to improve your skin by laser and in Asia they spend far more money on skin care than with makeup.

I have enjoyed reading this article because I realized that there are more people who think like me. I agree in using makeup to improve the image and hide the imperfections but not abuse prettying up.

What climate change means for children in kiribati

The head of UNICEF’s office in the Pacific island nation of Kiribati, Nuzhat Shahzadi, was in the UK recently.

She talked about what the future looks like for the children in Kiribati because of the climate change. Due to climate change, the children who she works with are having a uncertain future because the food sources disappear, water becomes contaminated and disease spreads.

Also she shares how children are getting involved in climate discussions as you can see in the video.

And in the meeting she is urging the UK to stand beside the children of Kiribati to help them.

In my opinion, Shahzadi had a good idea making this video because it transmits exactly the problems that they have and also she is showing the world the situation which these children are in.

US man Vernon Maynard marks 100th birthday with skydive

Maynard, who hails from Nebraska, lives in Palm Desert and he is a retired car dealer. He decided to celebrate his 100 years old jumping from a plane with a parachute.

This man said he wished that so his friends took him to Los Angeles and there he jumped with his two nephews.

Before making the jump, Maynard obtained a doctor's note to confirm he was physically prepared.

In my opinion, Maynard have had a really good idea because jumping from a plane with a parachute is an incredible experience that I think everyone should do it once in life. Also, this man shows to all of us that the age doesn’t matter to do what you want to do. All in all, Maynard celebrated his 100 years old fulfill one of his wishes and he has to be proud of himself for doing it.
